Tauranga to Host Opening Event of New Zealand’s First Padel Tour

The 2025 Padel New Zealand Tour, the country’s first national padel tournament series, will commence on Friday, April 11th. The event will be held at The Padel Club Tauranga and feature A and B-grade competitions in men’s and women’s categories. As well as aligning itself with the Padel NZ ranking system, the series offers a chance for players to establish themselves in the country’s blossoming padel landscape and to immerse themselves in what is becoming an increasingly connected padel community.

The milestone event will cater to a mix of seasoned professionals and enthusiastic newcomers, offering the nation a chance for new-found competition and greater connection with the padel community. The tournament’s introduction by Padel New Zealand, the country’s official governing body, demonstrates the sport’s widespread growth and its role in promoting wider racquet sports throughout the country. The competition’s knockout format will give those playing and watching a taste of padel’s competitive nature, with the availability of national ranking points adding a professional quality to the event’s calibre.

Connection Off the Court – Strengthening the Padel Community

Aside from the event’s competitive action, the three-day event will offer prizes and social warm-up games on Friday, showcasing its purposeful intention to strengthen New Zealand’s padel community. These activities will introduce newcomers to the glass-walled racquet sport and introduce already familiar players to a welcoming group of like-minded individuals. Padel New Zealand’s President, Wictoria Markula, describes the event as “an incredible opportunity for players to compete, connect with the padel community, and be part of the sport’s growth in New Zealand”, highlighting his belief in the significance of the event in communicating padel’s growing influence.
